BA 400 –
Doing Business in Eastern & Central Europe (4 units)

| Academic Program: Students will enroll in BA 400, which is a
business elective course. After
the three week program, students will have 30 days to complete a required
paper outlining business aspects/interviews/lessons from each country. This
course is primarily designed for students to
gain an understanding of the business environment in these three countries,
to visit the operations of major U.S. corporations, meet with local government
officials and also visit historical/cultural cities in the weekends. |

| Students will meet approximately 20 heads of major U.S. corporations and
learn about doing business in the region as well as learn about opportunities
to work there post graduation or for a summer internship. Students will
also meet members of the U.S. Embassy in each country (possibly the U.S.
Ambassador as well) and also meet at least one minister (of finance, or
education, or foreign affairs). The faculty members for this course are
currently in the process of confirming meetings some of the following 35
corporations, which have operations in Romania, Poland and/or Russia: |

| Locations and
Travel: The group will spend 5 business days in each
of the following cities: Bucharest,
Romania; Warsaw, Poland; and Moscow, Russia. The weekends will be spent
visiting cultural/historical cities within a 2 hour drive from the capital
cities. |

Housing and
Meals: Students will be housed in 3-star hotels in
the capital cities and comparable hotel accommodations during the weekend
excursions. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel each morning, lunch
will be provided at a local restaurant or at the U.S. corporation’s main
office where the meetings take place, and dinner will be provided at a
local restaurant or back at the hotel.

Personnel: The Visiting
Faculty members are Professors Henry Cahill and Mike Costache. ♦ Mr. Cahill is a retired career diplomat
currently serving on the Board of Directors of the American Foreign Service
Association (AFSA) and is returning for the 12th consecutive
summer to teach at Pepperdine. During his 35 years in the U.S. Foreign
Service, Mr. Cahill served as minister-counselor of the U.S. Mission to
the U.N. in both New York and Geneva, where he had responsibility for
global economic issues with over 180 other nations; he also served as
Consul General to Bombay, India. ♦ Mr. Costache serves on Pepperdine
Alumni Board of Directors and teaches “Success 101,” a course designed
to better prepare graduating college students entering the job market
or starting their own ventures. Mr. Costache has a background is in international
business consulting and investment banking and has worked on infrastructure
projects in China, India, Pakistan, and South Korea.

| Cost: The tuition cost is $3,420 for 4 units.
The International Programs charge of $3,995
covers orientations, airfare and transfers to and from airports, educational
field excursions, room and board overseas, and other program extras. Textbooks and personal costs, such as individual
weekend travel, are not included; however group travel during the weekend
is included in this price. Financial Aid is available for eligible students. |

| *Schedules depend
upon airline space availabilities and may be changed. All courses and other
program activities offered are dependent upon availability of faculty who
teach these courses. The University contracts with scheduled air carriers
and local operators and travel dates may be changed in the case of armed
conflict, terrorist activity, natural disasters, strikes, or other unforeseen
circumstances. The program will not travel to any country for which the
U.S. Department of State has issued warnings against travel by U.S. citizens. The International Programs Office will always
